Coastal Bridal Session Honoring Family

One of the best things about bridal sessions is the way a bride can pull in tradition and wedding day aesthetic for a memorable moment during the wedding planning period. For Austin, she wanted to honor past loved ones through her session with Ashley Glasco Photography, so she donned her wedding attire at her grandparents' river house in Tappahannock where she frequently vacationed while growing up.

With a dropped waist, ruffled skirt, and a sweetheart neckline, Austin's classic gown complemented the coastal vibes of her location perfectly. To pull in the sentimental memories, Ashley made sure to capture Austin at the hammock one-seater swing where her late cousin used to love to enjoy summer days as well as the boat ramp where her beloved grandfather used to dock his boat with the channel marker in the background. It was a beautiful and emotional day for everyone, but to be able to pass down these gorgeous photos to future generations just made it all the more special.

Elegant Richmond Wedding in the Woods

For Honey and Jun, celebrating their Korean heritage on their special day was second only to beginning the marriage they had waited so long to start. Honey carefully crafted each element to speak to their personalities while all set against the beautiful woodland and waterside backdrop at Celebrations at the Reservoir in Richmond. With great anticipation of the day to come and the long journey ahead, this couple said "I do" with style and grace.

Captured by Andrew and Tianna Photography, this beautiful day radiated elegance from the soft lilac bridesmaid dresses, the classic black tuxedos, to peach and green garden florals. The bride's long chapel train at the ceremony perfectly contrasted with her beaded blush reception dress that, with a shorter hemline, allowed her to dance the night away in a fabulous pair of Badgley Mischkas. Handmade jarred candle favors and large white helium balloons wrapped in ivy just added to the chic whimsy of this sweet celebration.

Rustic Autumn Wedding Inspiration

With fall just around the corner, all of these rustic harvest details is surely going to get you in the mood for jewel tones galore. Bring on the hot apple cider that awaits us all soon! From rich reds to lush purples, this wedding inspiration shoot has a bit of everything to speak to cooler weather days ahead.

Captured by Meredith Ryncarz Photography, a gorgeously tiered naked cake dappled with apples and berries, a textured bridal bouquet with deer antler accents, and a table set for a gilded outdoor celebration tied together the best of autumn elements at Williamsburg Botanical Garden by one fab creative wedding team. It goes without saying that we love us some fall weddings!

Virginia Beach Destination Engagement Session

Easy-going and fun with two adorable pups named Lexi and Diamond, Jennie and Pat live and met in DC. They spent many hours on and around the National Mall. Whether it was going for runs there or seeing a museum or comedy show nearby, it was their regular Friday Date Night tradition. So it was initially no surprise to Jennie when Pat wanted to make a detour to the Mall last New Year's Eve. The couple had dinner and paint party plans, but Pat just had to see the National Tree first. A quick Metro ride later, they were standing on the Mall as they had so many times before. But as they looked at the glowing Christmas tree, Pat began to speak about how special this place had become to him and how much he loved coming there with Jennie... and then before she knew it, he was down on one knee with that one life-changing question!

Because they're saying their vows in our nation's Capitol, they wanted something completely different for their destination engagement session with Caroline Lima Photography, and so they traveled down to Virginia Beach for a casual chic afternoon with their two excited furbabies at First Landing State Park. Between the cozy sunshine, the matching doggy neckerchiefs, and sweet moments, it's got all the right ingredients for the quintessential beach day.

Anchor-Lovin' Military Wedding

For Hampton Roads residents, military weddings symbolize pride, tradition, and a whole lot of love. Sarah and Nick took their nautical theme to beautiful new heights on their wedding day at the Founders Inn and Spa in Virginia Beach as Leigh Skaggs Photography captured each and every moment. Although wedding planning during Nick's Navy deployment and Sarah's time in nursing school was difficult, when all the details came together, it proved to be worth every second.

With anchors on everything from the invitations to adorable anchor chocolate wedding favors to signs all over their ceremony and reception, it was a nautical-filled wonderland to get everyone in the celebration spirit. Navy blue bridesmaid dresses perfectly complemented Nick's dapper dress whites as the traditional Arch of Swords greeted the couple in their new life together. We can think of no better quote for this newly married bride and groom than the one they chose for their reception: "In high tide or low tide, I'll be by your side."

Vintage Backyard Wedding By The Water

In her grandfather's backyard overlooking the water and First Landing State Park in Virginia Beach, Rachel and Mark said their I Do's in sweet relaxed vintage wedding style. The deep plum bridesmaids dresses perfectly offset the lush greenery of the surrounding area and the bright pops of color in each amazing bouquet. Sunkissed Events and Jessica Ryan Photography made sure that no detail went unnoticed as the lovebirds celebrated.

From the vintage styled seating area, to the duck cross stitch honoring her grandfather's well-known carved decoys, to Rachel's locket that she wrapped around her wrist with photographs of loved ones inside, each personal touch paid homage to the couple's heritage. With Mark's love of the water, seafood, of course, was the main course, and it was all presented in a boat (put together by the groom himself!) filled with oysters and duck decoys! You can't get much better than that for a wedding day!

Joyful Destination Outer Banks Wedding

Nothing highlights a wedding day more than the joy on a bride's face as she says "I do" to the one she loves, especially when surrounded by closest family and friends with one beautiful Atlantic Ocean waving its own kind of congratulations.

We love the DIY details that Abigail and Ryan incorporated to personalize their special day on the beach, particularly the mussel shell place cards, calligraphy table numbers using IKEA frames, and the paint brushes to help their guests dust off their sandy feet after the ceremony.

Captured by Brooke Mayo Photographers, Abigail and Ryan had the most beautiful destination wedding day at the Sanderling Resort in the Outer Banks. With a gorgeous multi-colored ribbon and white mantle ceremony arch, shades of aqua and blue bridesmaid dresses, and golden touches, the scene was set for a memorable day!

And today, we have DIY guru and vendor fam Caitlin Gerres of Caitlin Gerres Photography and her cozy gray photography home office in Virginia Beach. Through purple accents, handmade window treatments, and family-built furniture, this space is meant for comfortable productivity surrounded by all the best of one's favorite things.

A Very Merry Hipster Picnic Engagement

Describing themselves as "just a couple of hipsters in love from Virginia Beach," Whitney and Phil have the most genuine hearts and absolutely adore each other -- which shows through and through in their engagement session with Jackie Watson Photography! With antler decor, retro suitcases, vintage thermoses, and knit blankets from Mad Hatter Vintage Rentals and Styling, it set the most playful and cozy scene at BayVue Estate in the small town of Susan, Virginia where these two lovebirds will soon be getting married.

We love when engagement sessions pull in couples' casual personalities in a way that the wedding day doesn't always allow, and this one is no exception! Bring on the fun and relaxation in the shade!

Modern Tropical Watercolor Beach Wedding

This stunning Virginia Beach wedding starts with an oceanfront ceremony under a gorgeous tropical floral arch overflowing with eucalyptus, palm fronds, orchids, and more! Shannon and Brian chose the Oceanaire Resort for their destination wedding away from home -- a location that allowed the bride (in gorgeous barefoot sandals, of course!) and groom to walk down the aisle with sand between their toes. The beach lovin' lovebirds dreamed of a laid-back modern pastel watercolor-inspired celebration... and with the creative wedding team they had, it was a dream come true!

Captured by Sarah Street Photography and coordinated by Sunkissed Events, every single detail helped Shannon and Brian celebrate in chic style with their closest family and friends. Between the watercolor painted cake, lush exotic florals by Roost Flowers, and white paper lanterns filled with blooms, it was an unforgettable celebration that ended with a packed dance floor, glow wands, and two very happy newlyweds.

Colorful Family Farmhouse Wedding Inspiration

Warning: You will swoon and drool by the end of looking at this whole cheerful family farmhouse wedding inspiration! And you won't regret it one bit!

With navy blue sequined linens, platters of fried chicken, bright bouquets of blooms, and more, Amanda Hedgepeth Photography captured the fun beauty of the family-style dining concept. Designed by Misty Saves the Day set against the backdrop of Montero's Restaurant, it's a mix of vintage and modern -- a lovely sentiment when blending in tradition and contemporary aesthetic.

So for couples looking for ideas on how to incorporate current wedding trends with personal touches, start with one of the things that brings people together: the food and beverage! Whether you're all about that cake, savory meat and potatoes, or sweet cocktail sips, there's something to be said for creating a wedding style inspired by the things you two love most.

Elegant Pink and Peach Waterside Wedding

Give us a pair of Badgley Mischkas, a pink and peach color palette, golden light at a gorgeous waterside venue, and wedding party smiles for days, and we will be smitten! Originally met in Boston and now live in New York City, Beth and Bryan happened upon The Tides Inn on a weekend getaway to Virginia and immediately fell in love with the place. When they got engaged, they knew that they had to get back to that perfect memory for their big day. Planning their wedding from a distance was difficult, but thanks to digital technology, Hannah Hildebrandt Events made sure that their vision came to life.

There are so many reasons we love this wedding but our favorite aspect is the romance between the groom and bride, which came to life in front of Alicia Lacey Photography's lens. Adorable wine bottle and bud vases centerpieces gave a sweet touch to the reception, and the backdrop of the landscape and water at the Inn married all the elements together for the perfect coastal Virginia celebration. And just wait until you see their gorgeous textured cake -- it's the epic of all epic ruffled beauties!

The Finishing School for Wedding Professionals

That one time my Jane Austen soul sister messages me and says, "So I have this idea for a workshop, but it's not really a workshop..."

Hey, wedding pros! This one is just for you! We are so excited to finally share something fabulous ahead. In partnership with the Queen of Heirlooms, Glamour and Grace, we are announcing The Finishing School for Wedding Professionals, a one-of-a-kind personal education in styled shoots happening at Dover Hall in Richmond, Virginia on August 29, 2016.

Timeless Hermitage Museum Wedding

We are not shy about our love for family heirlooms, and we adore the fact that this special day began at the same church where the bride's parents said their I Do's in Chesapeake many years ago. Elizabeth also chose to wear her mother's veil, a lovely accessory that complemented her Hayley Paige bridal ball gown perfectly.

With beautifully rustic cornhole boards made by Elizabeth's brother from their grandfather's home and a delightful garden-inspired cake bar all captured by Eleise Theuer Photography, the stage was set for a celebration highlighted by pops of blush and all the greenery we could ever want. With the gorgeous Hermitage Museum and Gardens in Norfolk as the backdrop, Sunkissed Events made sure the reception reflected Kevin and Elizabeth's style with lush florals and organic textures. Sprigs of rosemary on each plate and rosemary-infused olive oil as a parting gift served as the perfect touches to this wedding filled with family-inspired details.
