When Mermaids Get Married: Ideas to Swim Away With

Calling all mermaid brides! We have rounded up the latest batch of sea-lovin' goodies that are going make you want to sing your siren song once you hit the beach. From sparkly tote bags to edible shells to accessories for your ladies, there is a little something for every part of your special day on land!

Glamorous Woodlands Themed Wedding

When the groom is an archer, you know a highly unique and themed wedding is about to happen! From wooden centerpieces complete with a bird's nest to name cards held in tiny logs to apples shellacked to display table numbers, Autumn and Matt's whimsical-woodlands-meets-English-folklore-legend wedding day came to life with the help of Cherry Blossom Planning Factory and Sean Holder Photography.

With Sherwood Forest firmly in the background, these two lovebirds celebrated their love with a ceremony at the Lesner Inn in Virginia Beach and then adventured off to a more woodsy landscape for some portrait time. For their wedding cake and sweet treats, adorable mushroom cupcakes surrounded birch-inspired tiered cake with aptly-placed owls perching atop the main tier. And while Matt didn't don a Lincoln green tuxedo, we know there was plenty of Robin Hood through his band of Merry (Wo)men thanks to the groomsmen and bridesmaids who surely made enough good-hearted mischief, laughter, and cheer for everyone in attendance!

Planning a Wedding with an Introvert

Extroverts and introverts. Maybe a little bit of both, but we can all identify as one of them in one way or another. And when a wedding is involved, this can especially be a minefield of unique situations for someone who is more reserved and needs that solo time. The dynamics of a relationship can shift depending on how each person in a relationship identifies, and sometimes miscommunication can happen. I'm excited to have fellow introvert and wedding photographer, Tianna of Andrew and Tianna, here to share some insight and tips when it comes to marrying an introvert and how the foundations of a relationship can only be made stronger with that insight!

Coral and Aqua Blue Outer Banks Wedding

The stretch of ocean views is a highlight of the Outer Banks, an attraction that brings visitors from near and far, especially those from Hampton Roads and the rest of Virginia. Stefanie and Matt chose to complement the beautiful North Carolina water with aqua blue details and sandy starfish and seashells throughout – from stationery to the boutonnieres!

A beach clubhouse made a beautiful setting for these two lovebirds' reception with hints of coral brightening an already beautiful setup. Carley Rehberg Photography highlighted each and every detail while capturing the intimate moments between Stefanie and Matt. Seeing their special day makes us ever more eager for the summer months to come!

Romantic Traditional Catholic Wedding in Chesapeake

Cynthia and Luis' wedding day was a fairytale romance entwined in heritage, so Saint Benedict's Parish in Chesapeake was the perfect location for the pair to exchange vows in a traditional Latin mass that celebrated the rich religious history of the sanctuary and their personal faith. To honor family, the bride kept them close to her heart by wearing a rosary bracelet and her grandmother's ring.

From the ivy-trimmed flowers along the aisle to the key-shaped bottle openers at each place setting to a gorgeous cascade bridal bouquet, every detail was made memorable with the help of Sunkissed Events and Caitlin Gerres Photography. With d├ęcor that highlighted the beauty of this Catholic gem and a love that was celebrated at the Greenbrier Country Club with their loved ones, Cynthia and Luis began their happily ever after future by paying homage to the past.

Rustic Nautical Water Table Wedding

Angela and Andrew's special day was one their friends and family had been waiting for since they first became a couple. Personal details took centerstage with a sweet embroidered handkerchief and a wedding trend that has taken off in the last few years – an homage to family who could not be with them that day. But with plenty to celebrate and the talented duo Andrew and Tianna behind the lens, the wedding was both memorable and beautiful from start to finish.

Using their venue, The Water Table, and its marina as inspiration, the bride and groom knew they wanted a nautical theme, but added their own navy blue notes and rustic flair with fishnet and white lanterns. During the ceremony, they literally ‘tied the knot’ to round out the theme of their waterside wedding! We love this wedding that celebrates not only the shores of Hampton Roads but the love between a couple who has now become husband and wife.

Modern Botanical Wedding Inspiration

Get that app open and pinning fingers ready! There are no words for the excitement of finally featuring this phenomenal shoot! In collaboration with Aisle Society for David's Bridal, we had the honor of producing an array of gorgeous contemporary bohemian wedding ideas alongside beautiful gowns and incredible Virginia wedding pros. A color palette of mixed metallics, peach, and soft slate set the stage for Chelsea Anderson Photography, Just Dandy Events, and Isha Foss Design to bring to life unique trend-forward wedding day vignettes at the Norfolk Botanical Garden.

Starting at the ceremony area with a crocheted birch altar, hanging macrame planters, wild greenery swag, and tri-colored chiavari chairs, the wedding party truly shone in swashes of dusty blue and white fabrics against all the garden green. From David's Bridal, the bride's trumpet lace and tulle gown complemented the bridesmaids' convertible, elegant long mesh dresses (which were perfect for our gorgeous curvy lady and our glowing momma-to-be!), and our gents looked mighty dapper in their classic dove gray suits.

It was off to cocktail hour next with a chic modern white lounge set, signature drinks, and sequined high-boy tables around the Rotunda! Midcentury modern buildings provided the perfect backdrop inspiration for couples who love architecture, the romance of a garden setting, and eclectic flair. But while we love the outside of the Rotunda, the inside is just as beautiful, especially when transformed from an empty space into an intimate reception! From antique Asian-inspired blue and white ceramic vases with persimmons, thistles, and aptly-named blushing bride protea nestled together to the mismatched vintage china made complete by gold chargers and modern copper-foiled menu cards, the reception area was a dream! We especially loved the savvy repurposing of the mixed metallic chiavari chairs and macrame planters from the ceremony into dinner seating and cake table details.

The best part? All of this -- wardrobe and decor -- was sourced locally from popular stores (like Home Goods and David's Bridal, of course!), thrift shops (the florist-stylist spray-painted old chiavari chairs for that rose gold goodness!), and event rental companies... making this inspiration so very doable and attainable for any couple whose hearts go pitter patter for modern shapes, organic textures, and beautiful settings.

Stylish Downtown Norfolk Engagement Session

With the inspiration of the gorgeous Slover Library and the expertly designed O'Connor Brewing Company both in Downtown Norfolk, Lindsay and Marty owned their personal style for their chilly engagement session with We Are The Mitchells. When you mix amazing locations, chic wardrobes, and two people in love, you definitely can't go wrong no matter what the weather is outside! And of course, any engagement session is only made more perfect with a furry sidekick named Mojo who is donning his own stylish neckwear. (Can we please talk about his too-cute-for-words ears?!)

Beautiful Rainy Day Waterside Wedding

Getting married in Virginia oftentimes means unpredictable weather, so when rain began to fall at Josh and Cara's autumn wedding, the team at Cousiac Manor switched gears and made a beautiful inside ceremony instead. With a couple who had known each other since high school – but became sweethearts several years later – they knew the most important part of their wedding day was still intact: being together and celebrating with their closest loved ones.

We love seasonal weddings, and with marsala and tangerine hues with a light dusty blue to tie in the waterside elements, this beautiful day in New Kent was on trend from start to finish. Lauren Simmons Photography focused on the fun (a s’more bar!), the special details (lacy blue TOMS shoes), and the moments Josh and Cara first spent as husband and wife to make this a wedding worth remembering forever.

Whimsical Fairy Tale Wedding Inspiration

Inspired by Pantone's Rose Quartz and Serenity Blue, Savy Events and Fresh Look Photography waved a magic wand and made this truly whimsical fairy tale wedding inspiration come to life with a bit of Rapunzel-esque aesthetic at The Mansion at Double R Ranch in Suffolk.

A lush cascading bridal bouquet with draping ferns by Kathy Forrest Design and a "magically" suspended in mid air tiered wedding cake with delicate sugar lace and pink rosebuds crafted by Gourmet Bake Shoppe set the stage for the happily ever after as the beautiful bride transformed into a princess with a classic lace gown from Milk and Honey Bride and romantic hair and makeup by Jenna Kathleen.

The ornate watercolor stationery by Amber Dominique Designs matched with gilded flatware and warm wooden tones makes our hearts sing a little song and wish for our fairy godmothers to come whisk us away. For the classic romance out of a storybook kind of wedding, this inspiration has it all!

Classic Wedding Filled With Giving and Heritage

We could instantly tell that this classic wedding was a blast from start to finish! With champagne for the ladies to get the day started and a custom Batman pocket watch, Caleb and Mary made sure each moment was lighthearted and fun. They said their vows on a cloudless day at First Presbyterian Church at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront, then headed over to the Sheraton Virginia Beach Oceanfront Hotel to celebrate as Dani White Photography captured each and every moment.

Two things we loved is that the two lovebirds opted for charitable donations in lieu of wedding favors as well as Mary chose her dress from Church Street Bridal, a Lynchburg bridal boutique started by the YWCA of Central Virginia that gives its gown profits to battered women's shelters. Hearing a couple so ready to give on a day that could be all about them is something to be remembered. And to honor Caleb's Jewish heritage and wrap up the reception, they were lifted in a lively Horah surrounded by those they love most in this world. It just doesn't get much better than that!

Helpful Tax Tips for Newlyweds

It's that time of year. You know that one. It's the one with W-2s, 1099s, and a gift basket full of "please help me get a nice refund!" to your tax accountant. And if you just got married last year, then welcome to the world of trying to figure out filing your taxes together for the first time! With the deadline of April 15th just around the corner, we are so excited to have local tax expert and accountant, Ryan Gerres of Gerres Accounting Online to share some very helpful and key tax tips for today's Tuesday Tidbits to help you prep!

Handmade Waterfront Tappahannock Wedding

Despite the Virginia heat during the day and the crazy evening storms, Kylene and Ryan's handmade Tappahannock wedding was absolute perfection. This sweet couple exchanged heartfelt vows down by the water and then treated their guests to music and tasty bites on the lawn before the reception which was held in a beautiful twinkle-lit barn decorated with clever book table settings!

We especially love the soft, flowy gray bridesmaid dresses and the summer feel of this waterfront wedding. Limefish Studio captured every detail, from personalized mason jars to a local band that finished the night off in musical style. This warm and friendly down-home wedding is one that will instantly put a smile on your face!

Spring-Inspired Indian Wedding Inspiration

With Easter right around the corner, we're thinking of pink and a whole gaggle of pretty pastels! While most Indian weddings are rich with vibrant and jewel-toned colors, we were inspired by our South Asian brides who get married amongst the sweet dogwood trees of Virginia. With a blend of cultural fusion, the pastel colors of springtime gives a fresh new take on Indian tradition and bridal beauty. Hints of pale pinks and pale yellows against the soft whites set the scene for a romantic wedding celebration for brides who still love color, but want to be inspired by the season and nature's new beginnings!

Alice in Wonderland Themed Bridal Shower

It's a real treat when we not only receive a real bridal shower submission, but also particularly when it's filled with familiar wedding faces! When wedding pro friends get married, it makes our hearts smile big time because it's what we live for even in our everyday! Showered by love from her pals at Cherry Blossom Planning Factory and captured by Will Hawkins Photography, Kristina was surprised with a "Mad as a Hatter" themed co-ed wedding shower at the Norfolk Botanical Garden (where she is normally the one making garden weddings come true for other brides and grooms!).

With fun Cheshire Cat photo booth props, topsy turvy teacups, playful hat headpieces and fascinators, and "Drink Me" tags on yummy Italian blood orange sodas, this whimsical celebration with friends is the best of English charm and quirky bohemian while giving nod to the well-loved Alice in Wonderland aesthetic. Decked out in a ruby red peplum cocktail dress and a fabulous tiny crown, Kristina definitely was the Queen of Everyone's Hearts that day... especially when her king shows up towards the end for a sweet snuggle in the garden!

Favorite Marble-Inspired Wedding Details

I don't know what it is, but marble is a thing for me right now. (And watching how marble is actually harvested from the mountainside is simply beautiful.) I can't get enough of it! There's something about the nature-made material with visual streaks of imperfections made perfect with a little polish. Kind of like life, right?!

A few months ago, I started eyeing marble home decor, and it has only snowballed into an entertaining tray, earrings, and a necklace... and it shows no sign of stopping anytime soon, especially when I started seeing it quietly invade our wedding world. Today, I'm sharing my favorites in a roundup of some of the best handmade marble wedding details from around the web!
