Elegant Vintage Winter Wedding Inspiration

It is no secret I love Christmas, so heck yes, to giving color nods to the best winter holiday ever even in January because winter brides or grooms can still get inspired for chilly weather weddings! With red anemones and lush textured greenery, these are naturally sourced during the coldest months of the year... making it eco-conscious, gorgeous, and oh so perfect for many winter themes.

Inspired by the discovery of a pristine brocade print gown the groom's aunt handmade in 1964 (worn by the bride!), Missy Loves Jerry collaborated with Yeopim Flowers to envision an elegant take on vintage aesthetic and local North Carolina history. To start off describing this shoot, North Carolina's Perquimans County translates to "Land of Beautiful Woman" in the Yeopim Indian (Algonquin) language, and this lovely classic bride certainly exemplified the saying!

From handmade pine tables and chairs by Hobbs Furniture (a Master Period American Furniture Maker) to the vintage ruby ring from the Silver Fox of Hertford to the handsome crimson-written stationery created by Elizabeth Porcher Jones, this winter wedding inspiration is steeped in heritage and all things cozy neutral with pops of vibrant cranberry red and perfect for any holiday couple or anyone who has invited Old Man Winter to their wedding!

Modern Museum of Contemporary Art Wedding

What do you get when you combine a sleek, modern theme and a reception venue as amazing as the Virginia MOCA in Virginia Beach? The result is a party that shows off the couple's personality through every detail! Charlie and Danielle celebrated their wedding day in style with high-energy fun that didn't stop until they left with flair in a sparkler send-off.

From their crisp florals to the tiered wedding cake to the chic bridesmaids dresses, this bride and groom incorporated their monochromatic color theme all throughout. Our favorite moment is at the beginning of the ceremony, when Danielle walked down the aisle to the Jurassic Park theme song with an inevitably hilarious reaction-- a total amazing surprise from her groom since she was fooled into thinking the "historic church wouldn't allow it!" With The Girl Tyler behind the lens, this non-stop celebration is a party to remember!

Top 5 Things to Bring to a Destination Wedding

While it may be snowy and cold here in Virginia, we are all dreaming of warmer and more tropical days. With my heading to the Bahamas this weekend for a press trip and retreat with Aisle Society, we are especially feeling the cabin fever, so what better way to channel that into an advice roundup of the best things to bring to a destination wedding! Whether you're a wedding guest or a maid of honor coming into town or going out of town, here's our top five list for things everyone should put on their packing checklist. (And if you're the bride or groom, knowing how to accommodate out of town guests is also key!)

Fun Romantic Cultural Fusion Wedding in Norfolk

Trendsetter alert! We don't think Francis or Micah had any idea that their wedding colors would be so on point with Pantone's 2016 dynamic color duo: Rose Quartz and Serenity! But here they are! This Filipino-American cultural fusion perfectly blends modern and traditional in a day worth remembering. Peach, rose quartz pink, serenity blue elements, and gold blended harmoniously with the personal details put together beautifully by Endlessly Events.

Francis and Micah chose the gorgeous Vista Point Center in Naval Station Norfolk for their reception because it mirrors the beautiful San Francisco Bay that Francis calls home. They were inspired by elements of family traditions, Asian culture, and their future life together, represented by a traditional Filipino ceremony at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Virginia Beach.

We love everything about this wedding, from the ivory hydrangeas tucked into delphinium and Austin Juliette Roses, to the bell wands and lace tambourines the couple chose for a unique and memorable grand exit. Captured impeccably by David Abel Photography, this special day is the perfect example of celebrating the past while embracing the future.

Free-Spirited Romantic Beach Wedding Inspiration

Inspired by Anthropologie style and chic wedding romance, this wintry beach wedding inspiration is simply perfect for the bride or groom who is a hopeless romantic and walks to the beat of his or her own drum.

From the stationery's wax stamps to the soft brown suede 1920s-inspired bridal ankle boots, Heidi Calma Photography captured the essence of another era infused with modern bohemian sensibility. Soft blush florals and eucalyptus designed by Courtney Inghram Events decorated the reception table and mini cakes and pastries created by Whipped Up by Mimi sweetened up The Attic at Waterman's. Between the steely gray fur stole and the ghost chiavari chairs from Distinctive Event Rentals and transparent vellum menus by Stephanie B Design, it's a win for winter wedding ideas!

Tropical-Inspired Albemarle Plantation Wedding

We love couples who take the wedding day in stride – from timelines to vendors to the weather, there are a lot of factors that go into a wedding! And while a stormy rain threatened during the ceremony, Olivia and Chris embraced it and focused simply on becoming husband and wife one tropical-inspired wedding day.

Albermarle Plantation in North Carolina provided the perfect backdrop for bride and groom portraits, and Danielle McVey Photography captured the coral and navy details beautifully. Between the fun sparkly Kate Spade Keds and an enthusiastic wedding party, it was a personalized celebration centered around the love between Olivia and Chris... and the truth that they were meant to find each other from the beginning!

Magic in Matrimony: Things Learned at Walt Disney World

Growing up as a child in San Diego, I went to Disneyland every year. It was magical every time, but none other year was as magical as 1991. It was around my birthday when Beauty and the Beast hit the theaters and instantly had me entranced by every coloring book, t-shirt, collector's trading cards, dolls, and eventually VHS and cassette tape. I had finally found my princess soulmate. Belle taught me that it was okay to be a little girl who loved books, was a little weird, talked to animals, and dreamt big. Not much has changed since then. Still love the books. Still a little weird. Still dreaming big. And definitely still talking to the animals (or three particular cats with very large personalities in this case).

The Disney touch never really leaves you even as you get older, and as a married woman, Disney still has lessons to teach, particularly Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Last week, thanks to the fab crew behind Walt Disney World's PR department, I was grateful for the opportunity to experience it through a media lens, so with the first in a multi-part travel series here on Tidewater and Tulle, I'm sharing 5 things we can learn from the WDW culture and how it relates to marriage. Whether you're newlyweds or celebrating the golden 50, there are always a few things we can learn from the maestros of mouse magic!

Intimate Southern Brunch Inspired Wedding

Sometimes for a couple, their story begins with 'love at first sight.' For Anthony and Emily, it took years before they realized there was something more. Though they first met in middle school and later attended prom together, it was only after high school graduation that they became more than friends.

Our favorite elements of this cozy chic backyard-themed wedding at the Woman's Club of Portsmouth have to be the adorable basket of goodies baked with love by Emily's mom and the crossword puzzle given to each guest. Because they wanted to keep it close-knit and small, the bride and groom chose not to have a wedding party and instead wanted the focus to be on the delicious brunch reception with their closest family and friends. And Leigh Skaggs Photography sure did beautifully showcase each unique yummy detail of Anthony and Emily's special day! Hello, fried chicken and waffles!

Chic Oyster Picnic Rehearsal Dinner

With a family home along the Potomac River, Paige and Matt are big fans of the Northern Neck region of Virginia. Even though they all live out of state, every time they are in town, Merroir is a must-visit for their award-winning oysters. When planning the wedding, Paige wanted guests to really experience the wonderful things Northern Neck has to offer, so it was without question as to where they would host their rehearsal dinner.

Captured by Melissa Arlena Photography, the Rappahannock River and the sailboats that passed by gave the perfect backdrop for chic picnic tables, gorgeous soft pink and white florals, and a great riverside oyster feast. To tie in the theme of the evening, oyster shell place cards were made for each guest to inform and to serve as a sweet memento of a local culinary favorite. Between the delicious food and good music from the band, everything was perfectly orchestrated to help Paige and Matt celebrate their wedding weekend in style.

Vintage Bayside Estate Wedding

This fun, vintage-themed wedding is sure to make you smile even on the dreariest of days, and for good reason – it happened during a signature Hampton Roads hurricane! Despite the heavy rain, Andrew and Tianna captured images that spoke perfectly of the love between the couple while showcasing the beauty of Bayvue Estate where the wedding was held.

Tucker and Hanna's story began with a Facebook friendship that blossomed as they discovered both their mutual quirkiness and their love for God. When Tucker proposed with a vintage engagement ring, the theme of their wedding was born. With brushed copper centerpieces and splashes of teal throughout, the uniqueness of this day is a testament to the couple's story and how it all began.

Modern Bohemian Wedding Inspiration

Free-spirited and embracing nature, the inspiration behind this beautiful Virginia shoot encompasses all that is bohemian, modern, and oh so chic. Bold oranges, sky blues, rich reds, and vibrant yellows make up its colorful palette which pairs perfectly with the soft neutrals of the wedding party's suits and gowns, especially the bride's three-quarter sleeved ivory lace gown!

Conceptualized by Orchestrated Stylized Shoots and beautifully captured by Sarah Street Photography, Sunkissed Events and Palette of Petals tag-teamed to style this bohemian loveliness at Seven Springs in the Richmond area. With a showstopper painted white tiered cake by Sweet Fix, loose and elegant hairstyles by Lou Steven's Glam Squad, a clear acrylic invitation with golden script by The Girl Tyler, and a stunner of a bridal headpiece designed by Olivia Headpieces, we fall more and more in love.

For the ceremony, a lush floral ceremony ring encircles the bride and groom as they exchange their vows. While later, guests would enjoy some gourmet sips and bites in the stylish contemporary lounge area as an alternate idea for an intimate reception. We have to give three cheers for this editorial shoot because these wedding ideas are absolutes for any couple looking to mix up traditional wedding elements into something completely sophisticated and different!

Sweet Wintry Virginia Beach Engagement Session

In 10th grade, Tammy and Brent were in the same English class at Kempsville High School in Virginia Beach, but their love story doesn't start until several years later. In 2013, one of Tammy’s friends convinced her to create a profile on Match.com. Although she didn't think online dating would work for her, Tammy set up her profile anyway. And one day, she got a message from someone that she recognized from high school that read, "I believe our paths have crossed before."

As history would have it, they met at AJ Gators for their first date, just down the road from their former high school. So for their engagement session with Caitlin Gerres Photography, these two kept to local spots that were meaningful to them: the park in their neighborhood, Kempsville High, and the gazebo around the corner. The snow that was beginning to fall was just the icing on the engagement session cake!

Show the Love to Your Wedding BFFs

With Valentine's Day next month, we're already thinking about love! And with its being busy wedding planning season, we're thinking of the wedding parties who support those brides and grooms! Using the popular book The Five Love Languages by Dr. Gary Chapman, we can help decipher our relationships in the wedding world, and we can strengthen and better connect with our wedding party for a truly memorable and meaningful chapter of life.

How do they feel loved? How can we connect? How can we improve our wedding experience by doing so?

Chic and Fun Beach Wedding in the Outer Banks

Two things we love: destination weddings and details that are special to the couple getting married! Because their friends and family were traveling in from Europe for their special day, Nelly and Michiel opted to celebrate at the beautiful Sanderling Resort in the Outer Banks. Even though their wedding was far away from their home in Asia, the couple added unique personal touches with their stationery, reception moments, and wedding decor. Michiel knew that Nelly's favorite animal was a sea turtle, so after incorporating one in her engagement ring, they knew their seaside wedding would be made complete by carrying this theme throughout their special day.

Captured beautifully by Stephanie A Smith Photography and designed by Renee Landry Events, this intimate beachside wedding was perfect for a couple ready to set sail on their next global adventure.
