Handmade Mint Green Beach Wedding

Lexus and Geo are high school sweethearts who have thrived through the ups and downs of high school, a long-distance college relationship, and a sweet little surprise package, their beautiful daughter, Layla.

So to celebrate becoming husband and wife, they dreamed of a beautiful beachside wedding. On a limited budget, they planned a small, intimate ceremony at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront and a reception full of DIY details at a private community clubhouse in Chesapeake.

Captured by Heidi Calma Photography, the radiant bride included personal touches by wearing her stepmother's veil and grandmother's handmade shell bracelet. Lexus' mother also walked little Layla down the aisle just ahead of the bride and groom, so their daughter could be a very important part of their special day. With bridesmaids in mint green dresses, beachy details like starfish and seashells, and good cheer from all places, Lexus and Geo's wedding was without a doubt, overflowing with plenty of love and beautiful moments.

A Story of Four Best Friends

Fun and sentimental, this bridal shoot tells a story of four best friends who grew up together in Williamsburg, Virginia. Now all grown up, Jillian, Marti, Lauren, and Jess have a bond unlike any other-- so much that these four ladies got married within a six month time span... and all in their hometown of Williamsburg!

Jess, the leading planner lady behind Wedding Co. of Williamsburg, decided to create a fun wedding shoot that would honor their childhood friendship and their new lives as newlyweds to the tune of Historic Williamsburg favorite hotspots! Although Jillian, Marti, and Lauren all knew about the shoot, they were told nothing about the surprises Jess had in store for them. They knew to bring their wedding dresses and wedding details from their respective big days, and that was it!

When the girls arrived at the Williamsburg Inn, the wedding pro entourage was there to greet them in faux wedding fashion. Sitting on the table were also replicas of their wedding bouquets created by The Flower Cupboard. And like a real wedding day, the brides' moms were there to help them back into their iconic white gowns.

Through the gardens of the Historic Williamsburg area, to the Cheese Shop, and cocktails at The Trellis Restaurant, these brides, part deux, reminisced and had the perfect girls' day out together in one of Hampton Roads' most loved areas. The day was filled with surprises and allowed four best friends who were four brides enjoy a memory that will last a lifetime. This is just a page in the chapter book of the last 20 years these girls have spent together!

Virginia Beach Marina Engagement Session

Like a lot of Hampton Roaders, Evan and Chelsea are total beach people but wanted something a bit different than the typical sandy beach for their sweet and romantic engagement session at sunset with Kate Supa Photography. So to add a bit of the nautical, they headed over to the Marina Shores Marina in Virginia Beach for a little docks and boats goodness before heading to a nearby field of sand and grass! You pretty much can't get much more coastal than this!

Wedding Ideas for Classroom Teachers

Many know that way back before the wedding world, I was a classroom art teacher... so this time of year is nostalgic for me especially when the stores start pushing new school supplies like it's homemade chocolate chip cookies (aka I cannot say no!). Freshly sharpened pencils and the crisp new boxes of crayons! There's nothing like it! So it is only appropriate that we do a roundup of the best teacher wedding ideas from around the web!

Heartfelt Fort Monroe Elopement

It's not a story you hear often, and when you do, it reminds you of how precious life really is and what matters the most. Katie and Landon had originally been planning for a September wedding, but life unfortunately took a bit of a turn. Landon's health was declining due to kidney failure. Not thinking a moment twice, they decided their commitment to each other meant more to them than a wedding date.

So on one beautiful sunny day in April, these two lovebirds eloped at Fort Monroe's beautiful gazebo area overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Captured by Elizabeth Henson Photos, Katie and Landon's happiness and uplifting spirits were celebrated by their closest loved ones in a ceremony that truly honored love-- in sickness and in health.

Timeless and Classic Wedding Inspiration

Organic and classically romantic is entwined all throughout every pretty detail in this gorgeous wedding inspiration shoot of gray, bronze, and pink!

Set up during a local photographers' workshop, Built with Love Workshop, by Michelle Amarillo Event Planning and Tara Liebeck Photography, this imagery is sheer perfection for couples looking for timeless wedding ideas. With climbing greenery and free-form arrangements crafted by Studio Posy, elegant hand-lettered calligraphy stationery by Capital Calligraphy, and a classic, yet asymmetrical updo by High Voltage Hair, The Obici House was the quintessential backdrop for this classic theme.

The bride herself is inspirational as we absolutely love the v-notched neckline of this cascades upon cascades of organza bridal gown by Hayley Paige from Pure English Couture Bridal! Mega swoon with the simple strand of pearls! This creative team knocked it out of the wedding goodness park!

Whimsical and Rustic Alternative Bridal

One of our favorite things about bridal sessions is when brides incorporate heritage into their session. This beautiful (and totally rad alternative!) bride, Shea, unfortunately lost her mother a few years ago, so she decided to honor her memory by holding her Mom's own bridal portrait which you'll see below. Nothing tugs the heart strings more!

In a classic mermaid style wedding gown juxtaposed with her colorful tattoos and bridal dreadlocks, Shea is a gorgeous paragon of a modern day bride spinning tradition into her own unique style... which as a professional hair stylist by day comes naturally to her!

Since she and her fiancé, Allen, will be having a rustic-inspired wedding at her future in-laws' family farm, it was only perfect to have her bridal session with Angel Eyes Photography there, too!

Things Your Planner Wants You To Remember for The Wedding Day

Your wedding coordinator is one of the pros on your wedding team who is with you the longest and has likely been with you from Day One. From getting your invitations mailed out to making everyone has enough food to eat at the reception, they've seen it all when it comes to big days-- no matter if the weddings take place at home or in a grand ballroom!

Since they are pretty much experts in wedding timelines and wisdom, I reached out to some of southeastern Virginia's best wedding planners to get the scoop on their top tips! What would they want brides and grooms to remember on the big day? What is going to help make their memories go from stress-free to "I GOT MARRIED!" perfection? Well, you'll just have to read below to find out!

Family-Themed Rose Garden Wedding Ceremony

Years ago, Marie and Vick started their journey together as a couple and blended family. Life happened with careers and raising children and the ebb and flow of daily busyness swept them away. So after many years together, they wanted to finally take the time to focus on themselves and celebrate their commitment to each other with a wedding. And of course, their daughters were all too excited to get involved-- it meant dress shopping!

Captured by Andrew and Tianna, their beautiful intimate wedding ceremony at the Huntington Park Rose Garden in Newport News was surrounded by their four children and closest friends and family. It was all that they wanted for a perfect wedding day!

Modern Tropical Wedding Inspiration

Things are getting a little humid around here today, and we're not just talking about our local reality beyond indoors! Dreaming of modern aesthetic and a variety of ocean blues, Sunkissed Events conceptualized a tropical vignette complete with a summery make-your-own ice cream bar!

Photographed by Caitlin Gerres Photography, a bold and lavish bouquet of orchids and palm leaves by Roost Flowers, natural makeup by Dhalia Edwards and casual beach chic hair by Salon OH, an elegant, yet relaxed bridal gown from Ava Clara Bridal, and even tiny lime-infused salt favors all make up this fun beautiful tropical wedding inspiration.

So grab your sunglasses and whisk yourself away to a relaxing place with pineapple ice cream and palm trees as you get inspired by this gorgeous contemporary styled shoot!

Walking Around Downtown Norfolk Engagement Session

Two years ago by happenstance, Alayna and Zak met at a conference. After just meeting her that day, Zak spared no time and immediately asked her out to dinner, and the rest was history! It has been a long distance journey across the country for these two lovebirds. From Virginia to Princeton to Texas and back to Virginia again, it goes without saying that they are stoked to finally be able to live together in the same city!

Captured by Lauren Simmons Photography, Alayna and Zak wanted a unique, non-city backdrop for their engagement session. The diversity of Norfolk's downtown neighborhoods filled with historic row houses and waterfront sunsets appealed to them in so many ways! And with good reason, it's gorgeous! So they met on the corner of West Freemason Street and Botetourt Street for a casual walk-about Downtown to share smiles and create some fun memories with each other.

Romantic Virginia Beach Anniversary Session

Any chance we get to feature an anniversary session is a good one. Weddings just don't stop on the wedding day. It's a preparation for a lifetime ahead together, and anniversary sessions help celebrate that.

From Elizabeth City, wedding photographers Heather and Jared shared their story and time with Erika Mills Photography in the little secret nooks of Virginia Beach. The light was absolutely magical, but this married couple's insight and experience are even moreso as they share in today's feature.

Navy Blue and Gold Lesner Inn Wedding

On a rainy day, Jessica and Gary were first married in the French Quarter in Louisiana's third oldest courthouse. Because of the military and an original wedding date postponed, these two decided to take advantage of Gary's training location in the Gulf Coast of Mississippi and elope in New Orleans. When you've known each since high school and have the Air Force's assignments to contend with your future, you gotta do what you gotta do to be with the one you love!

So when it came time to do the celebration with families and friends back home in Hampton Roads, "Finally! Finally!" was the big theme in loved ones' exclamations and fun cake toppers. And for the second time, rain made another cameo during Jessica and Gary's Norfolk Botanical Garden ceremony and their Lesner Inn reception. You would have never know the weather outside was less than ideal. Joy and excited vibes reverberated throughout the entire day.

But what really brought some major warm fuzzy giggles was the groom's favorite memory of the day:
It was when I finally got to see Jessica in her wedding dress for the first time. The entire time that our wedding was postponed, Jessica kept her wedding dress in our closet in its bag, and I never once peeked -- I wanted to see it! But it was well worth the wait. She was absolutely beautiful in her dress that had more lace than I had ever seen in my entire life.

Captured by Amanda Hedgepeth Photography and coordinated by Hannah Hildebrandt Events, delicious beignets brought a bit of their elopement into the big celebration and beautiful quotes of love decorated on each table only brought life and personality into their "Finally!" big day.

Unique Geometric Wedding Finds

While rustic and nautical are always local heavy hitters when it comes to wedding inspiration, one of the national wedding trends has been the geometric modern look. We've seen these clean lines in the popular art deco trend as Gatsby swept us off our feet and even in the beach boho chic with succulent-dappled tablescapes. So next up in our Favorite Things series, you're sure to go pin crazy with these linear goods!

From romantic tiaras to chic chair signs, we're including a little bit of everything when it comes to your modern wedding day. :)

Anne of Green Gables Wedding Inspiration

Grab your favorite dress with puffed sleeves and a glass of raspberry cordial because this Anne of Green Gables wedding inspiration is going to truly become your bosom friend of the internet today.

Like most all little girls, Tricia of Labyrinth Productions grew up loving the classic story of L.M. Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables. She spent over a year planning this amazing shoot by weaving many aspects of the book, TV show, and films together set against the local backdrop of BayVue Estate in Mathews County.

Sadly, just a week before the session, Tricia reminisced that was unfortunately when the world lost every young bookworm's heartthrob: Jonathan Crombie, the one and only Gilbert Blythe. So as a last minute detail, she memorialized the iconic actor into the shoot in one of the beautiful vintage frames (that you'll see below!). But to cheer us up, Gilbert is very much alive because he seriously has a make-you-look-twice doppelgänger and so is Anne (with an E) in this wedding!

From raspberry cordials to Anne's love of reading, bicycles, and Matthew's "string of pearl beads" to letters, there is no true blue fan who won't pick up on the beautiful nuances and homage to everyone's favorite romantically-inclined redhead. There are even imaginative old letters that Anne and Gilbert could have written each other over the years!

Rainy Urban Motorcycle Engagement

The day of their engagement session shoot called for rain, so instead of rescheduling, Kristine and Jon decided to push through... and we're so glad they did! Captured by Luke and Ashley Photography, cozy, yet industrial textures, fun motorcycle shenanigans, and beautiful light with cloudy skies were made perfect in Downtown Hampton.

But hello, amazing Harley captures! Their grunge chic-inspired session just couldn't do without it especially since these two are thrill seekers and adventurers at heart. And it's obvious since their honeymoon is set to take place in Iceland to go see the Northern Lights!

5 Tips on How To Write Your Client's Wedding Story

Wedding pros, writing doesn't come easy for most. When you try to find the right words to explain what you saw, felt, or heard, you either get a jumbled mess of letters, you get a tons of paragraphs that read like a non-stop spoken dialogue, or maybe you are a natural writer and you get carefully crafted paragraphs. In whichever category you find yourself, telling your couples' stories through your business' blog or social media is powerful.

Stories not only document your business' story, but it helps your wedding brand tell a very powerful message: It shows an interest in your client beyond the contract. And that message is your strongest marketing truth.

Classic Christopher Newport University Wedding

University weddings are such a beautiful homage to such a huge chapter in someone's life, and when the university grounds are as beautiful as the iconic campus of Newport News' CNU, you have the setting for one gorgeous celebration!

From the colonnade area at the Ferguson Center for the Arts to the Chapel to the David Student Union Ballroom, Lauren and Mike's minty green wedding is the quintessential collegiate wedding. With soft white florals to deliciously gold-speckled cake pops, these two sweet people were surrounded by nothing but laughs and excited loved ones and memorable moments.

Captured by Katelyn James Photography, Lauren and Mike's classic style was perfectly complemented by the elegance and grandeur of the campus buildings and interiors. It's no wonder that they chose this place to don a mermaid-style wedding gown, suit up in handsome gray attire, and say I Do!
