Chic Boho Nautical Wedding Inspiration

Shibori, woven textures, and classic lines. Inspired by preppy meets bohemian, we're having a moment over the ultimate mashup that is nautical boho chic with our latest coastal inspiration board! In a navy blue, white, and teal color palette, we're envisioning yacht club sophistication with relaxed, carefree style.

One of our favorite inspirations for this board is the trendy and oh so gorgeous shibori, a tie-dye-like Japanese dyeing technique that involves folding and binding fabric then dipping it in indigo blue ink. We're seeing it everywhere in the wedding world, and we think it's perfect for a boho nautical celebration!

Oceanfront Anniversary with Adorable Bulldogs

Before they relocated from Virginia Beach to Washington state, Justin and Catherine knew they wanted some special last memories with their pups, Dozer and Axel, on the East Coast while celebrating their marriage. With their photographer Mandy Ford in tow, they headed to one of Virginia Beach's iconic beach sites, the Cape Henry Lighthouses at Fort Story.

Mix two energetic goofy bullies with warm glowy light on the beach, and you have the makings of a perfect afternoon together! With a casual chic cold shoulder maxi dress and sweater tunic outfit change, Catherine exuded all the best style befitting of coastal vibes while Justin complemented her in his dark wash jeans and relaxed button-up shirts. We love any chance to celebrate these kinds of married days!

Coastal Multicultural Fusion Wedding

As an annual tradition, Levi and Alice had been going to Cape Charles to celebrate the Fourth of July for years, so Alice wasn't expecting anything out of the ordinary for their latest visit. When Levi packed a little picnic with some fancy foods and champagne for a beachside memory, they chatted and hung out as usual... until he reached in his pocket and pulled out a ring! After twelve years of dating, he still managed to surprise Alice, and it was no sooner after that they started planning a casual coastal wedding day in the place that meant so much to them at Oyster Farm at Kings Creek.

Wanting to represent her Indian heritage, Alice and Levi envisioned a multicultural fusion celebration with red and blue bridesmaid sarees and a color palette of watery blues. With a raw oyster bar for cocktail hour, an ocean-inspired wedding cake with gold flecks, pearls, and sea fan, we are obsessed with all their coastal details! (Fun fact: This bride is a self-proclaimed cat lady, and her kitty is named Pearl. So anytime pearls come up in their decor, it's a nod to her precious furry one! You can't miss her purrfect getting ready outfit either!)

Captured by Mallory McClure Photography, other special moments we loved is the way the couple honored some of Levi's grandparents who could not make the trek to the wedding and so they had his Pap's navy hat on a chair during the wedding ceremony and Alice's reception dress change into a stunning ivory and gold saree. This day was filled with good vibes, great food, awesome music, and another great memory to add to Cape Charles.

Modern Copper Wedding Inspiration

We aren't sure there will ever be a day when we get tired of copper, and this warm metallic shines on centerstage in this modern wedding inspiration shoot in Hampton! With The Historic Post Office as the perfect modern old world backdrop, stark white brick walls make all the jewel-toned colors pop. Wine-colored dahlias, giant king proteas, red and yellow mums, and seeded eucalyptus give plenty of texture that complements the smoothness of transparent and copper accents like the flatware and acrylic calligraphy place cards.

Captured by Cooper Photo and Film and designed by A Queen's Touch Events, this bride radiates bridal beauty with a natural updo with curls, braids, a crystal-embellished hairpiece, and a romantic cathedral veil while the groom dons a stylish three-piece chocolate suit, cream bow tie, and a cheerful orange boutonniere. In this inspiration, we especially love the copper drippy cake, geometric wedding invitation, and the timeless wedding dress sleeves delicately embroidered with a floral motif. Modern meets shimmery classic never looked so good!

Docking soon... The Tidewater and Tulle Journal.

"A ship in harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for."
- John A. Shedd

When we launched in December 2013, I wanted to give an online voice to Coastal Virginia -- a voice that said, "Hey! Yes, Charlottesville and northern Virginia weddings are amazing, but so are Coastal Virginia's!" Since I was a wedding photographer at the time, it was a huge passion stemming from a need to communicate with Hampton Roads and out-of-town couples what was available locally. As things evolved over the years, we have gotten quite a few repeated requests for the Tidewater and Tulle brand, but before we get into that, I wanted to share some important milestones.

10 Tips for Getting Great Sleep Before Your Wedding

We don't know about you, but sleep is our BFF. Try to get between us and some quality Zzz's, and let's get ready to rumble. Getting the proper amount of hours in slumberland that our bodies need to function is (and should be) on the top priority list. We won't blab on and on about the oodles of scientific studies that support this since that'd get redundant, but if you're not already rubbing elbows with the Sandman, then read on why it's absolutely vital to have great sleep before your big day. Thanks to our new sleep guru friends at Tomorrow (a modern bed-in-a-box system that believes sleep is beyond a mattress -- it's a mind and body science supported by high quality sleeping environment), we're sharing our top 10 tips on having a better relationship with your shuteye self (and a special coupon code from Tomorrow to help with that!).

Champagne Shimmer Meets Industrial Chic

It took Ashley a few times to find her dream gown, and she certainly didn't imagine herself in a dramatic princess gown, but when you know, you know! In a gorgeous organza gown in champagne, this modern bride knew she was meant to walk down the aisle in it the moment she stepped into it.

With a cascading ruffled ballgown skirt and timeless bodice embellished with rose gold crystals and pearls and a plunging illusion neckline and back, the Main Street Station in Richmond was the perfect industrial backdrop for this feminine gown masterpiece captured by Kim Stockwell Photography. Juxtaposed against black subway tiles, her delicate elbow length veil and even rose gold headpiece shimmered and complemented Ashley's overflowing garden bouquet of roses, eucalyptus, and dusty miller.

Traditional Blush Pink Hampton Wedding

When Tony knew that Natalie was the one for him, he knew that he wanted to plan an amazing proposal that involved their family, something dear to both of their hearts. He surprised her one evening with a video of his family asking her to join theirs and a candlelit walk that ended in a proposal. Natalie said yes, and they immediately began planning a classic wedding filled with blush details galore in the heart of Hampton Roads, the place they fell in love, at the beautiful downtown Historic Post Office in Hampton.

The couple opted for a traditional but elegant wedding and chose Kelsey Ann Events as their planner to coordinate their special day. We especially love how they incorporated navy blue in subtle ways to pop against the pink as well as the ever-gorgeous anemones nestled in the florals and the neutral brick backdrop of their venue. Caitlin Gerres Photography captured one sweet detail after the other, showcasing the charm of downtown Hampton for Tony and Natalie, an essential component of their day. Add a gluten-free cake for the bride and gorgeous pink shoes, and the wedding was an instant classic!
