When Two Lovebirds Pivoted From Mexico to the OBX

When a proposal begins with "he randomly won an all-expense paid vacation to Maui through a Halo Top sweepstakes on Instagram," is followed by a rare blizzard that canceled all flights out of Norfolk and rerouted through Richmond, and ends with a "yes!" on the sandy shores of Hawaii, then you know luck is on the side of this beautiful couple. That luck continued when Ashley and Devin started to plan their destination wedding in Mexico... but then COVID-19 hit!

For this happy couple, planning a wedding in a pandemic was odd, scary, and stressful, but also fulfilling. Their original destination wedding plans included 100+ of their friends and family, but when the coronavirus shook the world, they had to pivot quickly from the "Wedding of Their Dreams" to "Wedding of Their Dreams 2.0." To still keep the relaxed vibes of coastal chic elegance, Ashley looked everywhere on the internet for a new just-as-memorable location and ultimately found the private Outer Banks beach house, The Black Stallion, which was perfect to safely host close friends and family for two nights. The location offered the ideal amount of space to have a pre-wedding welcome cocktail party, give their daughters and other kids running room, and host their official wedding ceremony and reception.

Dappled in blush pink and white hues photographed by Neil GT Photography and coordinated by The Proper Setting, their wedding details showcased their personal style, but their thoughtfulness for the safety and comfort of their guests highlighted their kind hearts. From assigned sleeping arrangements to how guests were served food to a socially distanced reception layout around the beach house's pool area, Ashley and Devin wanted to ensure COVID best practices were being followed so they could make once-in-a-lifetime memories during their wedding weekend while keeping everyone feeling comfortable and safe in uncertain times.

Even though they had to have a Wedding 2.0, Devin and Ashley were destined to have a blessed day no matter where they ended up! Their bright smiles and positivity radiate in their photos and remind us all that weddings may look a little different right now, but love can never be canceled. Blizzard or pandemic be darned!
