Handmade Southern Garden Wedding

It was a Christmas party at a mutual friend's house where Audrey and Nael first locked eyes. They chatted, danced, and said their farewells until a few months later at a St. Patrick's Day pub crawl where they spent the entire day together drinking green beer and getting to know each other. Both Audrey and Nael will tell you, after that day there was no turning back for either one of them. Four years later on a romantic getaway to Charlottesville, Nael popped the question by hiding the ring inside a copy of the bride's favorite novel, Pride and Prejudice. (Hello, Jane Austen fan perfection!)

There was never any doubt this couple wasn't going to celebrate in true southern style. Born and raised in Virginia, Audrey knew she wanted to highlight the beautiful landscape, rich history, and amazing food. Westover Plantation was the perfect backdrop, set right on the James River and surrounded with acres of beautiful gardens, it was everything they could have asked for. Captured by our very own editor-in-chief (which was one of her last weddings so this one is extra special!) and coordinated by Glint Events, the couple kept the color palette simple with white, coral, lavender, and blush tones seen throughout the ceremony and reception. Many of the details were DIY projects the bride and groom did themselves, including the custom calligraphy placemats made of kraft paper and white paint pens, lavender pot centerpieces, and all of the stationery.

From the first look, where they were able to spend a few minutes alone together and bask in the moment, to closing out the reception with one of their favorite songs and having all of the guests form a circle around them, it is a day Audrey and Nael will never forget. So rarely do all of the people that mean the most to you come together to the same place, at the same time -- it was truly a perfect moment in time, a moment befitting of old souls who found each other.

Desert-Inspired Beach Wedding Inspiration

Sand, greenery, and painted sunset skies. All beautiful elements of nature that make deserts and beaches perfect complementary theme cousins when it comes to outdoor coastal weddings. Inspired by copper and beige, cacti, and geometric texture, we're swooning over the summery ways to tie the knot on the beach with our latest desert-y inspiration board!

With a shimmery warm metallic like rose gold against the cool blues of the Atlantic, everything sets the romantic scene for an elegant summer celebration. One of our favorite ideas is sweeping white drapery for a ceremony altar that allows the ocean breeze to move through and totally up the beach wedding vibes. By using hearty plants like succulents, you'll have long-lasting practical floral arrangements that can withstand our humid temperatures during the hottest months. So pass the peach linens and watercolor stationery, and let's get our desert on in Hampton Roads!

Moody Atlantic-Inspired Elopement Ideas

The ocean is such a perfect metaphor for love. With waves rolling and waters deep, it speaks to the constancy that love keeps moving, will change over time, and can be perfectly beautiful and mysterious at the same time. Inspired by the Atlantic Ocean itself along the shores of novel-famous Rodanthe, this Outer Banks elopement inspiration shoot will make you dream of quiet beach evenings and captivating romance.

Captured by Melissa Blythe Photography and designed by Michelle Wright Events, the swoonable details of an organic modern cascade bouquet, an untied navy blue bow tie, and a cathedral length gossamer veil showcase the beauty of an intimate wedding ceremony for two against the vast backdrop of shimmering shades of blue.

Craft Brews and Rad Murals

In a fun spin on engagement sessions, Brenna and Jordan actually waited until after their October wedding to have their portraits taken -- all because they wanted to wear flannel and enjoy the cooler weather while drinking a few favorite beers. With their photographer Valerie Demo in tow, these two lovebirds started off their local adventure at Commonwealth Brewing Company in Virginia Beach surrounded by an industrial rustic tasting room and a couple of brews.

After their time around the barrels, Brenna and Jordan ventured over to get artsy in the NEON District in Norfolk because of their love for all things local and art. Having both attended ODU, they love Norfolk, and Brenna's art degree definitely made featuring the artwork a bonus. It's not hard to love this session full of so much happiness and everything local!

Intimate Blush-Colored Vineyard Elopement

For Nick and Amber, the most important aspect of their elopement was to have an intimate, low-key Monday ceremony that honored their commitment to each other. The second most important element was that there was a great glass of wine to celebrate afterwards with their closest loved ones – and what better venue to choose for both than the gorgeous Saude Creek Vineyards in Lanexa!

In addition to having Maria Grace Photography capture their beautiful day, the couple chose lovely pink and blush-colored details that left us swooning! Amber's rose gold wedding dress is absolutely one of a kind, and her peony and rose-filled bouquet paired perfectly with it. We also couldn't help but smile at their adorable handmade wire cake topper. Everything illustrated a beautiful way to elope in style!

Modern Indie Coastal Wedding Inspiration

Sometimes certain wedding ideas just absolutely take our breath away, and this moody beach gorgeousness did just that! Inspired by the hibernation of nature in the Outer Banks, muted blues and browns serve as the richly toned color palette for this indie elegance. From a custom sea salt wedding favor station by Hatteras Salt Works to a minimalist ceremony arch from Amaranth & Artifact to hand dip dyed stationery lettered by Heart of Harlow to locally sourced goodies, everything shimmered with modern coastal love done differently.

Captured by Sarah D'Ambra Photography and designed by a talented creative team of Outer Banks wedding pros, there is eye candy galore for couples looking to have an alternative beach celebration with the gray and blue hues of the Atlantic Ocean. The vintage eclectic wardrobes for the bride and the groom mirrored the textures of all things water with their navy blue velvet suit, tiny pearl-embellished crop top, and waves upon waves of dusty blue tulle designed into a luxurious bridal skirt. Salt Hair even dyed the bride's tresses to resemble the milky iridescent shades of an oyster shell! If that's not theme dedication, then we don't know what is!

Between the earthy gourmet menu, the oyster shell table runner, and the wildly foraged bouquet style arranged by Honeysuckle Events, fall in love with the opalescent tranquility of off-season sandy shores.

Garden Elegance with Mom at Her Side

With Mother's Day coming up, we're extra sentimental to the typically unseen VIPs for weddings right now. For Heather, it was so important to have her Mom with her for her bridal session at Maymont in Richmond. Ooos and awws were aplenty as Mom watched her beautiful daughter become a bride as they walked around the estate with Christina Forbes Photography. And heck, Mom was even an expert veil flipper when they needed some fabric movement!

For her special day, Heather chose a lovely lace wedding gown with modern cap sleeves, illusion bateau neckline, and a statement back of buttons and embroidery... all made more bridal perfect with a gossamer cathedral length veil that was meant for elegant stairways and old world iron gazebos at their location! We love everything about this bridal session. You can't help but smile at Heather's infectious laughs, hand-tied peonies and roses, and the knowledge that this bride had her personal cheerleader there to support her in the next chapter of her life.

Rainy Day Nautical Wedding

Hurricane, schmurricane! There is nothing more fitting for a rainy day than having a fun-loving couple with a stunning nautical-themed wedding! Jessie and Drew decided to embrace the wet weather and got married in riverside style in Tappahannock. Elevated Events of Virginia planned each element of this unique day so that, even in the middle of a hurricane, it all went off without a hitch.

From matchboxes etched with sailboats to a custom-built beverage cooler row boat by her father and anchors decorating the cake topper, everything about Jessie and Drew’s day centered around their water-inspired location and pops of crimson red amidst the navy blue. The intimacy of hosting a wedding at their home was carried through by a candlelit reception dinner and long, family-style tables adorned with oyster shell place cards on top of gold-rimmed place settings.

A Girl Named Leney photographed both the beauty of the wedding and the quiet, sweet moments between Jessie and Drew as they celebrated the beginning of their marriage with a kiss under an umbrella and a night they would never forget.
