When a Scientist and Attorney Get Married... with Dinosaurs

It's no secret that we love featuring weddings infused with personal details, and this one is roaringly perfect! Yes, you read that title correctly – this wedding was all about the dinosaurs! Because Ginny is a scientist who studies sea ice at the poles, she and Ryan decided to give a unique nod to her scientific outlook on life and incorporated this pre-historic element throughout their wedding!

To tie the past with the present, Ginny wore her mother's wedding dress and even took a picture side by side with a vintage portrait of its first bride. Bethany & Dan Photography captured each sweet and simple detail, from the cookie dessert bar to a nighttime view of the ever-gorgeous The Country Club at the Highlands in Chesterfield. Keep scrolling for a wedding that's fun from the beginning of the day all the way to the sparkler exit!

5 Reasons Why Rhode Island Is Perfect for Virginia Couples

One of the best things about the wedding industry is that we are inspired by people and places from all over the world, and we infuse those themes into our lives as they speak to us... it's especially true for a region like Hampton Roads, known for its huge military presence that brings thousands of new people from all over the world into our coastal area every year.

Thanks to Visit Rhode Island, last month, I had the opportunity to experience the smallest state in America through a wedding-colored lens. And well, friends, I'm calling it now. Rhode Island is totally Virginia's BFF. With the immense local pride Rhode Islanders have as well as their love for all things nautical and close-knit wedding community, it's a match made in travel heaven. I met so many new industry friends (and hugged it out with my Aisle Society gal pals Glamour and Grace and Love Inc.), saw incredible places, and got to learn about some great things for Virginia couples looking for a coastal destination either for their weddings, honeymoons, or even weekend getaways. So without further ado, here are my 5 reasons why the Ocean State is perfect for those hailing from Old Dominion!

1. Nautical vibes everywhere.
Especially in Newport, there is an underlying urge to go find a sailboat and set sail around Narragansett Bay. With monkey knots, lifestyle brands like Kiel James Patrick, and fresh seafood galore, nautical isn't just a style; it's a way of life here. One of my favorite wedding venues we visited in Newport was Castle Hill Inn, a 19th century shingle-style summer home of a Harvard marine biologist turned coastal getaway and event venue. Nestled upon a cliff overlooking the Narragansett, the main Inn is beautiful, but it's their private beach cottages that charm their way into your salty air loving hearts along with its famous Castle Hill Lighthouse built in 1890 by the highly celebrated American architect, H.H. Richardson. Major ahoy here!

Virginia Beach Military Engagement Session

Brittany and Matt have been living separately for almost two years. Matt's time in the Navy and recent deployment have had these two in different states and more recently completely different countries... and it's been this way for much of their engaged relationship! So after a long deployment, their engagement session with Andrew and Tianna Photography was as much as a celebration as it was a reunion! And while they will eventually settle back down in their Texas hometown, for now, they wanted to be commemorate their time together in Virginia Beach and just enjoy being in each other's arms before the big wedding day.

(P.S. Fellow Jane Austenites out there, can we please talk about how this groom-to-be is a total doppelganger to a certain famous Mr. Darcy actor?! Oh, you lucky gal, you, Brittany!)

Fun Mint and Blush Richmond Wedding

Together for many years, Kate and David are living proof that high school sweethearts can live happily ever after. Paying homage to the generations before, their wedding ceremony took place in downtown Richmond at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart where Kate's grandparents got married several decades before.

We love that even the groomsmen got to have just as much fun as the girls – from drinks at the bar to a 1900's trolley ride that screams historic Richmond. J&D Photography didn't miss a single element that made this day unique, including an adorable reception sign with the geo-location coordinates of David and Kate's special day (Richmond!) and the cameos of their teddy bear pup, Louie. From the elegance of a cathedral ceremony to the industrial charm of the Boathouse at Rocketts Landing with one epic view of the James River and the city, their wedding embodied the all things joy-filled and sweet from start to finish!

Pretty Pastel Pink and Lace Rustic Wedding

While we hear of more and more couples meeting online, it's not often that the way they meet online is through Twitter... and yet that is exactly how Chris and Hillary's story began! An online happenstance soon turned into a relationship culminating in a sweet proposal at the Boathouse at Sunday Park in Midlothian. Their wedding day at Dellwood Plantation, characterized by rustic decor and blush details like Hillary's pink Alfred Angelo gown, was the epitome of a sweet Virginia plantation wedding.

With adorable hanging lanterns and fireflies, Hillary and Chris' invitations perfectly set the theme for the day and spoke to how the wedding would end – a celebration outside under the stars. In this wedding, Kathryn Ivy Photography brings us a touch of elegance wrapped around an intimate day with one of the most joyful brides we have seen. Get ready to swoon over navy blue, lace, blush, and a couple head over heels for each other!

Spring Plantation Garden Wedding Inspiration

Inspired by the gorgeous landscape of Tuckahoe Plantation (the boyhood home of Thomas Jefferson!) just outside of Richmond, Virginia, Fête Weddings, Don Mears Photography, and the entire creative vendor team dreamed up wedding visions of lavender-hued garden romance with fresh classic modern spins... just look at that swoonable ikat-esque table runner!

Loose and wildly arranged blooms, elegant modern calligraphy, vintage getaway car, and colorful Southern cuisine gave whimsy to this inspiration shoot – it is simply perfect for the couple looking for an undeniably romantic aesthetic for their special day. When you blend together details like bridal lace cap sleeves, foraged garden greens, and delicate wax seals, you are going to go down the timeless path and get lost in the best of the beauty that nature offers for weddings!

Classic Blush and Gold Museum Wedding

Envisioning a sparkly celebration much like a glitzy cocktail party, Lauren and Greg wanted a fun wedding without taking themselves too seriously at the Branch Museum of Architecture in Richmond. Even though it rained and the wedding had to be moved indoors, that didn't keep their spirits down!

With gold and sequin décor details, soft bistro lighting, breathtaking string ceremony music, late night gourmet popsicles, and photo booth shenanigans, Glint Events helped to make Lauren and Greg's lively and elegant big day be filled with great times. We love weddings with details that shine, and these captures by Mary Otanez Photography have us dreaming of gold, white, and sparkly blush dresses set against the backdrop of a gorgeous venue.

Rustic Glam Virginia Beach Wedding

This is a tale of a rainy day in Hampton Roads that began and ended with rustic elegance and so much chic wedding style. We love weddings at the Founders Inn because they always have a backup plan in case of inclement weather – which is exactly what happened on Caroline and Ethan's wedding day! No matter what the outdoors gave them, these two lovebirds were simply generous with love and excitement for their marriage to bother about the rain, and with Creations by Tiffeny coordinating the day from start to finish, it went off without a hitch.

Captured beautifully by Sarah Street Photography, the glam meets rustic details personalized by Caroline and Ethan fit the bill perfectly, especially their adorable gold deer cake toppers! From the lace navy blue J.Crew bridesmaid dresses and gorgeous gold heels to tall floral vases and oodles of overflowing greenery, the woodsy elements all came together for an indoor wedding that radiated warmth and happily ever afters.

Rustic Charles City Backyard Wedding

Backyard weddings are one of the many perks of getting married in Virginia, and on a beautiful day when the setting sun gives way to a perfect night sky, nothing makes us feel more at home. And that's why Angie and Lee decided to tie the knot under the far-reaching branches of a tree in Charles City. Their country wedding tied in simple, rustic décor with DIY touches and personal family memories. One of our favorite details in this wedding is the ladder covered in family photos that speak to the past, present, and future marriages in this new family and their lives to come.

Captured by Tiltawhirl Imagery, the gorgeous blue sky set the backdrop for the ideal setting for portraits, the sunflowers added a pop of color to an already perfect day, and the down-home feel of a bonfire crackling ended the wedding celebration in a fitting manner.
