Fun Colorful Ballroom Wedding with Chic Lucky Charms Macarons

Fun, fun, fun, and a whole lot of color! Mike and Maggie's playfully chic day was all about vibrant celebration and memorable amusement. Against the backdrop of the classic John Marshall Ballroom in Richmond, modern aesthetic took over with bright greenery popped with fuchsia, red orange, cornflower blue, and other vivid hues. From a giant and eclectically decorated escort card tree overflowing with flowers, to Lucky Charms macarons for everyone's sweet teeth, to a faux turf aisle runner and photo booth backdrop, life and love exploded in the River City.

Designed by Alyson Taylor Events and captured by Abigail Volkmann Photography, the energy and happiness exuded from Maggie and Mike was contagious to all of their wedding guests. The couple's shared love for biking came through in a big way at the reception (just check out that adult-sized tricycle entrance!) and their love for family showed at the ceremony (can we talk about Maggie's adorable aunt-turned-fabulous-flower girl?!). With a nod to old time traditions and joy at the future ahead, this modern eclectic day is inspiring to all of us who love to live life colorfully!

Elegant DIY Wedding with Gorgeous Handmade Gown

Adolfo and Kathryn's story began at their alma mater, Virginia Tech, in what seemed like a good first impression that would turn into nothing more. A few years later, they met while waiting in line for sushi and began a friendship that would eventually blossom into something they never expected. So when these two lovebirds began planning the handmade wedding of their dreams, this pharmacist duo knew they wanted a nod to their degrees (hello, cutest prescription pill bottle favors ever!) and a bright, pastel style that would complement the neutral colors of Noah’s Event Venue in Chesapeake.

With Luke and Ashley Photography behind the lens, this mint and pink wedding exuded elegance from the tall reception centerpieces to the ceiling draping. Kathryn's aunties made sure family was entwined in all the handmade details including the florals that you'd never guess they were made of silk flowers, a gorgeous sweetheart neckline wedding dress with a perfect mantilla lace veil, and a ceremony arch that would make any garden lover swoon! Their beautiful wedding party featured two extremely adorable littles -- even their sweet puppy was dressed to the nines for the special occasion!

Oh So Chic Anniversary Session

Any opportunity we get to feature an anniversary session is one we happily celebrate! Weddings just don't end on the wedding day. It's a chapter of preparation for a lifetime ahead together, and anniversary sessions always help us remember that special commitment.

At the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, Analise and Carlton shared their story with Shannon Moffit Photography in front of gorgeous architecture and downtown art. The grounds were perfectly set for this elegantly stylish couple, but their insight and experience are even moreso as they share below.

Cheery Turquoise Wedding on the Eastern Shore

For Tara and Mitch, getting married by the water as always a must, and what better place to tie the knot than overlooking the beautiful Chesapeake Bay in Cape Charles at the Oyster Farm at Kings Creek? With a pop of bright aqua color at the venue itself, the couple chose a cheery turquoise and coral pink color palette to complement the coastal vibes of the town... and with all the lush peony, ranunculus, and dahlia flowers, it has us absolutely swooning! From the bride's comfy lace sandals to their pastel watercolor cake that spoke to the adventure yet to come, Molly Lichten Photography captured each moment of this beautiful day by the water.

As they planned each gorgeous touch of style, Tara and Mitch paid attention to the heartfelt elements as well. The glass ceremony during the wedding itself created an heirloom to symbolize the strength of their commitment, and handwritten vows touched hearts all around as the two finally became husband and wife. Their love story may have started on an ordinary football weekend at Virginia Tech, but it culminated into a day that was fun and romantic that none of their friends and family would ever forget.

Coast-to-Coast Facebook Messages and a Pup named Louis

The story of Ashley and Tyler began many years ago when they were teenagers growing up in Chesapeake, Virginia. On a sunny day, during Spring of 2002, they just happened to meet at a mutual friend's house. Always laughing and smiling, Tyler will never forget seeing Ashley for the first time. Ashley, on the other hand, has the self-proclaimed memory of a goldfish and does not remember this day as clear. They soon became friends and for the remainder of high school would see one another at parties and group gatherings, and every once in a while went on dates to the local movie theater. In the years that followed high school, they kept in touch randomly, often only saying a quick hello and catching up over social media. Over time, their friendship faded as they each set out on their own.

Tyler joined the Navy and traveled the world while Ashley stayed in northern Virginia after graduating from George Mason University. They never imagined that the quick hellos throughout the years would turn into more, but love has a funny way of evolving between two people meant for one another. Deep down, they always kept a special place in their hearts for each other.

It wasn't until late 2012, when Tyler had just returned from deployment, that Ashley struck up a conversation with him on Facebook. Their first time talking in years ended up lasting for hours, and that spark that was patiently waiting to ignite finally lit. Although Tyler was living in San Diego and Ashley remained in northern Virginia, they continued to grow their relationship over the following year.

Military life can often be difficult, especially when it means being so far away from each other, but Ashley and Tyler made it work. With a little bit of luck, Tyler was fortunate to be stationed near Washington D.C. in late 2013, and soon after Ashley and Tyler continued growing their love for one another. Ashley introduced Tyler to her too-cute-for-words French Bulldog, Louis, and a happy little family was formed. Ashley, Tyler, and Louis have now been together for nearly five years. What was once a high school crush turned into an amazing life that will soon become a happy, loving marriage.

So when it came time to propose, Tyler knew he needed to make it memorable because of the long journey they've been on. Little did Ashley know that what was "planned" as a normal photo shoot with Luke and Ashley Photography was actually a secretly months-in-the-making surprise marriage proposal. With Ashley's parents witnessing and Louis at his side, Tyler asked for Ashley's hand in marriage at Fort Monroe in Hampton. And well, the photos say it all and gave us major heart squeezin' swoons!

Glamorous and Stylish Birthday Wedding

After exactly seven years of meeting, Kendra and LaShawn were married on LaShawn's 23rd birthday. When they chose The Water Table in Virginia Beach for their ultra-glam wedding day, the two brides envisioned black tie attire, Kendra's exquisite mermaid wedding gown with ruffles for days, and dancing all night long! When the time finally came for them to share their vows with each other, not a dry eye could be found in the room. This was a day they had been waiting for in so many ways, and finally, they could make a commitment in front of their closest friends and family.

With Cherry Blossom Planning Factory at the coordination helm and Dragon Studio behind the camera, each romantic moment was perfectly captured. From the blush and blue colors of the wedding party attire to the gold and black details on a gorgeously ornate-tiered wedding cake, Kendra and LaShawn knew this was a day worth waiting for.

Lavender Kisses and Sunset Vibes

Whitney and Tyler met while he was on staff and she was a student at Navy Supply Corps School in Newport, Rhode Island. They may have met one June, but their story would not begin until another five months when Whitney graduated, and destiny had them both receiving orders in Norfolk.

It was in Virginia Beach that Tyler proposed, so it was only perfect that their engagement session with Molly Lichten Photography would also be in the city, but down at the beach this time. With their wedding color of lavender as their inspiration, Whitney wore gorgeous flowy dresses befitting of the coastal winds while Tyler complemented her looks with his own denim and khaki. Warm sunset light greeted them at Fort Story with the lighthouse photobombing their romantic session just perfectly, but we especially loved how they simply celebrated their relationship through these special memories.
