Classic Modern Fall Wedding with Geometric Details

When we think of our ideal fall wedding in Hampton Roads, our minds go to jewel-toned florals and weather that still allows for gorgeous outdoor portraits. In shades of burgundy and gold, Cindy and Zack's wedding was the epitome of the season, and the Woman’s Club of Portsmouth provided the perfect neutral backdrop for their all of their colors and moments to pop. With details coordinated by Chancey Charm Washington DC like the geometric wedding cake made by family, the asymmetrical ceremony arch of florals and draping, and gilded chiavari chairs hand-tied with greenery, everything was a vision of modern autumnal romance for these two lovebirds.

Along with the seasonal details were special moments photographed by Sharon Elizabeth Photography such as family gathering after the ceremony to release white balloons in memory of those who lived on in their hearts, a flower girl taking a peek at the bride and groom, and the lovely bridesmaids in sparkly and pastel pink dresses celebrating their newlywed friend. This celebration is all about good times, sentimental moments, and gorgeous inspiration!

Pink Fairytale Inspired Wedding at a Castle Estate

As soon as Abby said "yes" to Curt, she knew the exact wedding gown that she was going to wear -- her mother's. As a little girl, she would tell everyone that she would wear that dress on her wedding day, and she made sure of that through beautiful alterations to make it her own princess-worthy statement. With the support and love of his wife-to-be's dreams, Abby and Curt envisioned a pink-filled fairytale theme for their wedding day at Dover Hall Estate in the Richmond area.

Captured by Don Mears Photography and coordinated by Events by Elizabeth Palmer, this magical wedding is befitting of any storybook romance filled with whimsy and fun! With nods to Disney's Beauty and the Beast and Cinderella, there were tiny glass slippers as place card holders, a breathtaking sugar glass slipper on a tufted pink pillow wedding cake, gold pumpkin-esque carriages as decoration on the entry tables, and even the enchanted rose in a bell jar for their sweetheart table centerpiece. And, readers, did you know the ballroom at Dover Hall was actually originally designed with Beauty and the Beast's iconic ballroom inspiration in mind? So basically the most perfect backdrop ever for Abby and Curt, especially when the bride and her ladies in bright pink perform a special choreographed dance to "Ain't No Other Man" by Christina Aguilera for her new husband!

Downtown Elegance Wedding of Burgundy and Blush

After moving to Richmond, Jessica was focused on her career and the cultural experience that Virginia's capital has to offer. But little did she know, a story was being written the very first moment she met Evan in their apartment building's common area. One conversation led to another, and they had their first date while walking downtown along the canal and to the Capitol building. After dating for a year and a half, Evan recreated that special first date and proposed on the historic steps.

When planning their wedding, it was without question that the two lovebirds would have a Richmond-inspired celebration since the city had been so integral in their relationship, and they wanted to share a taste of that with their closest loved ones. Envisioning an urban, modern, and romantic day, Jessica and Evan enlisted the help of his sister to make reality a burgundy red, blush, and champagne wedding dream all over the city: Quirk Hotel for getting ready, St. Joseph's Villa (a former orphanage turned nonprofit dedicated to helping youth) for the ceremony, and Boathouse at Rocketts Landing for the reception.

Captured by Shannon Moffit Photography, the groom in his stylish custom burgundy tuxedo and the bride in her classic ivory lace gown were surrounded by chic bridesmaids in pink and dapper groomsmen in black. Wine-colored ranunculus, peach roses, and pink spray roses set the scene around golden lanterns, wooden box centerpieces, and a gilded, ruffled wedding cake. Basically it's all swoon for days! We especially loved the joy-filled smiles from everyone in attendance, the classic Rolls Royce getaway car, and the sunset views of the James River.

Rustic Jewel-Toned Wedding with a lot of Aloha Spirit

When you read that their first meeting story is a breakdancing workshop in Hawaii that turned into a group dance performance in Maui where they got to know each other better beyond their cool moves, you know there's a fun couple behind it! Because of where they met and grew up, Moriah and Jon Jon thought there was no question that they were going to have our wedding back home in the Aloha State, but within six months of planning, things took on a different spin as date changes swirled around family members, wedding team choices, and guest list additions. Needless to say, this bride and groom took a step back to refocus on what and who their wedding was all about.

After months of prayer and realization, they decided to cancel their Hawaiian wedding plans and relocate it to Virginia Beach at Founders Inn with just their immediate family and some close friends. But that didn't mean they didn't bring Hawaii to them! Jon Jon wore a Maile-style Ti Leaf Lei Twist lei wrapped with white tuberose that was shipped directly from the islands while Moriah performed a beautiful hula dance for her groom to the Hawaiian/English duet, "E Ku'ulei My Love" by Kuana Torres and Maila Gibson.

Captured by The Girl Tyler, these two lovebirds' joy is palpable and makes us desperately wish we had the rhythm and skill to do an epic one-armed handstand like this rad groom. In Moriah's own words, we loved the reminder that "whether it's a huge wedding, a small one, or even an elopement, just recognize the common thread - a union between two people who love each other."

Intimate Winery Wedding Rearranged by Hurricane

When Hurricane Irma swept through Key West last month, repercussions were felt around the country, even in the wedding world (like another quick-thinking couple we featured not too long ago!). For Rick and Lexi, they had planned their Floridian destination wedding at a venue that lost power and the ability to host their gathering, so they had to find a new perfect place here in Hampton Roads to celebrate their marriage – all in a matter of days! Fortunately, they had an amazing wedding team to come in and still make their wedding gorgeously memorable at the Williamsburg Winery, the home of the couple's very first date. You would have never thought there were flower shortages with Maria Grace Photography behind the lens capturing their lovely details!

While the entire guest list was understandably not able to change their travel plans on such short notice, their larger wedding became a much more intimate small gathering of a few dozen loved ones. The deep burgundy red of Lexi's bouquet perfectly matched the winery backdrop and contrasted beautifully with their original tropical wedding color of mint green and light blue. And as destiny would have it, a local music festival was going on at the same time at their venue that happened to be close friends of the couple, so the whole wedding reverse-crashed the other party! The band dedicated a special song to the newlyweds as they danced in front of hundreds of new impromptu guests. The whole celebration was the cherry on top of what turned out to be a perfect day and shows that yet again love always prevails over weather shenanigans.

Carefree Vintage Modern Wedding

From the West Coast to their hometown of Virginia's Capital, Kat and Andrew knew they wanted to play by their own destination wedding rules and do whatever felt natural to them; they believed that a wedding day was all about attitude and that it would be contagious to their guests (and they are right!). So filled with the carefree spirit befitting of their home in California, these two lovebirds set out to make a memorable and simple celebration at Historic Mankin Mansion in Richmond.

Inspired by their elegant venue, their color palette of pink, gold, and navy blue accented the dramatic ceremony space and open white reception tented area. To personalize their vow exchange, Kat's brother and Andrew's father served as their officiants who helped them create their own unique non-religious ceremony. Captured by Awesomesauce Photography, we especially love the bride's modern lace halter wedding gown, her epic vintage Gatsby-like rose gold engagement ring, and the endless smiles for days from everyone in attendance.

Elegant Purple and Gold Rose Garden Wedding

With this unfortunate hurricane season our world has had, it's also been quite a year for quick-thinking engaged couples and families all over the country. Living in Atlanta where Hurricane Irma was projected to cause some travel difficulties, Tamara and Alix made some last minute changes for their Norfolk wedding with the help of one fabulous mother of the bride. Surprisingly Norfolk Botanical Garden was still available for their wedding date, and they swooped in to transform their former beach wedding into a memorable garden day of elegance and joy.

The day started off with a fun bridesmaids' "first look" and then carried out other beautiful traditions like a talented opera singer personalizing their ceremony and the couple jumping the broom to celebrate the beginning of their new marriage. When it came to the reception, Tamara and Alix were all about desserts! With gorgeously unique cakes as the centerpieces for each table, their purple, gold, and white wedding set the tone for sweet bliss ahead.

Captured by Samantha Searles Photography, other details that caught our eye were the beautiful gold-leafed plates to the calligraphed vintage mirror with a list of signature drinks for the night. No matter the venue, Tamara and Alix's wedding only proves that rearranged weddings can still be gorgeous and reminds us that love always beats weather any day!

Romantic Dusty Blue Vintage Wedding with Military Traditions

If lush floral arrangements and greenery-covered tables are your heart, you are going to fall head over heels in love with this vintage-inspired wedding in Suffolk! Jeff and Tori chose to get married in the backyard of her parents’ house, glamming up this simple but meaningful venue with eucalyptus, white roses, and lovely handwritten signs on vintage mirrors. Dusty blue was the perfect color to complement their outdoor theme when paired with other shades of blue in suits and dresses.

Jeff and Tori spent most of their dating relationship apart while Jeff was on the West Coast serving in the Navy, so the endless joy was obvious at finally being together in the same place for the big day. To incorporate military touches to their celebration, the couple had sweet little jet and American flag heart charms as well as the fun cake cutting tradition with the groom's saber. Coordinated by Events by Jacklyn and captured by Klaire Dixius Photography, there was not a moment of excitement missed -- aviator sunglasses being donned during wedding party portraits, an ice cream cart filled with frozen treats, and a lively sparkler exit at the very end.

Other details we love? A sweet ‘first touch’ where bride and groom read letters to each other and a watercolor monogrammed invitation suite that is majorly swoonworthy. Just wait until you see what this day held for Jeff and Tori!
