Romantic Virginia Beach Sunset Engagement Session

Robert and Shannon both met as med school students at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk. And one spring morning while vacationing in Myrtle Beach before their impending graduations, Shannon received a surprise phone call at 6:00am. It was Robert who said she needed to get up and get ready because he had a surprise for her. Confused and still tired, Shannon made her way to the bathroom to get ready for their outing where she found a photo and note taped to the mirror which contained some instructions for her.

It was a scavenger hunt! Right down to the beach... complete with love notes, rose petals, and of course, Shannon's favorite: a Dunkin Donuts iced coffee. She met Robert on the beach for a sunrise picnic of strawberry and whipped cream pancakes, but it wasn't just breakfast they shared. They shared the moment of excitement when Robert popped the big question with a beautiful engagement ring with a diamond from her grandmother!

When deciding on engagement photo locations with Karyn Johnson Photography, they knew that First Landing State Park with its beautiful beaches and Spanish moss was the perfect place for them. Shannon is a sweet spirit and kind disposition, and Robert has the same friendliness and was called "the nicest guy at EVMS" by his peers. It's no wonder they both want to enter the medical world to help take care and love on their patients. But for now, they're excited to continue caring for each other as they make their way to becoming husband and wife!

The Importance of Having a Photography Timeline

We all know timelines are important, especially on a wedding day. The master timeline created by a wedding planner orchestrates all wedding pros and events so everything runs smoothly for the couple, pros, and venue. So why have a photography timeline in addition to that? Oh so many reasons, friends! To help us better understand the importance of receiving a timeline from your wedding photographer, we have vendor fam Dani of Dani White Photography sharing what she does for her couples and some very helpful tips for what to expect on a wedding day photography timeline!

Richmond Military Wedding with Estonian Traditions

Kaile and Jacob said "I do" with a view of the Swift Creek Reservoir at the Boathouse at Sunday Park in Richmond. Since Kaile is from Estonia, she and Jacob chose to incorporate several Estonian traditions into their wedding, making their day even more meaningful for the bride's family who was not able to attend.

Along with some sweet nautical touches, the couple added sentimental nods to their pasts and their future together. To honor her heritage, Kaile wrote her maiden name on a small sailboat and set it out on the water after she officially became a wife. Included in her bouquet was an Estonian flower (the blue cornflower) along with a "holy" rock from the beach where they got engaged tied on the ribbon. Jacob wore his Army uniform in honor of his late Grandfather who was also in the military and also celebrated Kaile's home country by the Estonian ritual of splitting logs.

Our favorite details had to be the wooden anchor guest book and the homage the couple paid to generations past at their reception. You can see why we love this fusion of European tradition and American romance captured by Allison Maxwell Photography. A wedding that ends in a farewell boat ride is the perfect match for our little corner of Virginia!

Hippie Chic in the Woods Wedding Inspiration

Between the delicate lace bell sleeves on the bridal gown and the modern psychedelic-patterned plates, this creative team channeled all the best things about the 1970's into contemporary wedding aesthetic.

Captured by Melody Gillikin Photography and coordinated by Misty Saves the Day, the sugar-sculpted blooms by Whipped Up by Mimi gave pops of color to the eclectic furniture and decor from Chic Unique Vintage Rentals. Playful Retro-Inspired Theme Park Sweetheart Session

Inspired by the fun energy and playful color of Busch Gardens Williamsburg, Amy and Michael had a retro-inspired sweetheart session with Angel Eyes Photography. As two elementary school teachers, they wanted to celebrate the end of a successful school year with a touch of iconic summer with a visit to the locals' favorite theme park.

Even though Amy and Michael had never had photos together before, they handled posing in front of crowds like champs with their love for each other and spirited personalities. From the beauty of the buildings and natural scenery at the park to the roller coasters, games, and one sweet couple dressed in retro inspired outfits, everything all came together for an joy-filled session that was magic filled with our favorite kind of memories.

Romantic Handmade Gold Virginia Beach Wedding

Alicia and Jordan's relationship started as casual acquaintances because they had a lot of the same friends, one of which thankfully decided to give things a little nudge. The pair discovered a mutual love for travel and a natural chemistry together, and it wasn't long before they were planning a dream handmade wedding at the Lesner Inn in Virginia Beach. With a gorgeous modern lace, elegant open back wedding dress, a pair of sparkly high heels, and the perfect Dolce & Gabbana perfume, Alicia was more than ready to meet her groom on their special day.

With a navy blue, blush, and gold color palette, there were glittery DIY elements added throughout the reception like the sparkling "bride" sign that hung on her gold chiavari chair and the new Mr. and Mrs. sign making their sweetheart table extra sweet. Guests were asked to sign a black chalkboard guestbook globe (a nod to their love of travel!). The newlyweds' name adorned the cake as a shimmery topper and small blue flowers peeked out of the golden bottle centerpieces. Caitlin Gerres Photography captured the most beautiful and joyful moments as Alicia and Jordan celebrated the start of their new life together!

Glowy Rudee Inlet Engagement

Inspired by where they had their first date and other memorable moments throughout their relationship, Rachel and Mike knew they wanted to start their engagement session with Kim Stockwell Photography at Rudee's Restaurant down at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. With a walk through the marina and on the beach, they then made their way to the very spot Mike proposed to Rachel in Sandbridge. Sandy toes and salty kisses made for a beautiful evening full of laughter and a glowy Virginia Beach sunset.

Classic Nautical Yacht Club Wedding

When your matron of honor is the lead coordinator at Emily Weddings, you know your day is going to be smooth sailing and beautiful! Jordan and Lindsay's wedding at the Cavalier Golf & Yacht Club in Virginia Beach is what navy blue and mint dreams are made of. With nautical touches to highlight the waterside ceremony and details from anchors to monkey knot table numbers to wooden lantern centerpieces, the couple knew just how to tie in the beauty of coastal Hampton Roads to their personal classic style.

We love the sweet moments captured by Lauren Simmons Photography – letters read beforehand by the bride and groom, a hilarious flower girl moment in the middle of their ceremony, and a yacht club-perfect exit on a boat to start their journey together. Lindsay, arm in arm with her bridesmaids looking gorgeous in navy blue, and Jordan, standing alongside his best friends in suspenders and mint bow ties, can count themselves truly lucky indeed. Their wedding day was anchored in special moments and together they have many years to look forward to as they set sail on their next adventure!

Late Summer Citrus and Peach Wedding Inspiration

Nestled on a golf course overlooking the Nansemond River in Suffolk, Virginia is an Italian Renaissance-style home once known as Bay Point Farm that dates back to 1870. The home was restored in 2011 and is now recognized as The Obici House -- named after its original owner and Italian immigrant, Amedeo Obici.

Paying tribute to this historical home and the late days of summer, As You Wish Weddings, Mad Hatter Vintage Rentals and Styling, Kirstyn Marie Photography, and the entire creative team were inspired by a peach and jewel-toned citrus color palette that would be translated through a gorgeous small tiered cake, romantic calligraphy, and a variety of vintage pieces, including Italian stemware. This inspiration is a lovely mixture of rich, cultural history and fresh, modern design that honors the past and celebrates the present.

Southern Style Wedding with Middle Eastern Flair

Only fate could bring a groom born in Jordan and a bride born in California together. Assad and Hillary met in Washington, D.C., while working at the same architecture firm, and it just took one game of skeeball at a group happy hour to realize they would soon be inseparable. It was only a matter of time until Assad dropped down on one knee and asked his bride to be with him forever, in front of that very first skeeball machine they bonded over.

Since Hillary spent most of her childhood in Hampton Roads, they immediately began planning their destination wedding at The Hermitage Museum and Gardens in Norfolk. Envisioning a beautiful cultural fusion celebration, they both incorporated Middle Eastern traditions such as Arabic calligraphy, henna party, and a fun entrance to Arabic music all alongside the old-school Southern style that Hillary had fallen in love and grew up with.

Captured by Parker Young Photography and coordinated by Sunkissed Events, it was a magical dream underneath the stars. Signature drinks (French 75 and Mint Julep) were garnished with Virginia peaches (from Charlottesville where Assad went to college), freshly shucked oysters in a repurposed boat were served to the guests, Doumar's ice cream (with the world's first waffle cone maker on site!), and Middle Eastern-inspired hors d'oeuvres completed the global ambiance through food and drink.

Some of our favorite personal details included acrylic drink stirrers that doubled as escort cards and a blueprint of the wedding reception seating which doubled as a guestbook so guests could sign and tell the happy couple where they say. With a style all their own and an elegance that is unmatched, this Middle Eastern meets Southern flair wedding had us swooning from the first details to the final sunset portraits overlooking the Lafayette River!

Chic Pastel Bridesmaid Luncheon Inspiration

From the gorgeous bridesmaid dresses to the lakeside setting, it's not hard to fall in love with this bridal luncheon inspiration shoot at The Boathouse at Sunday Park in Richmond! Captured by Amber Kay Photography and styled by Alana Futcher of Chancey Charm Richmond, the creative team dreamed up a subtly preppy nautical theme with champagne, sweets, and a whole lot of beautiful smiles.

Mustard yellow, pastel colors, and a touch of dusty blue set the color palette for this waterfront luncheon with the ladies. The softly modern textured single tiered cake washed with yellow and blue perfectly complemented the floral centerpiece comprised of roses, blue thistle, and yarrow that was arranged on timeless vintage furniture from Nathaniel's Unique Events. It was a bright sunny day along the Swift Creek Reservoir and had all the right celebratory vibes and style!
